Artist Bio
Tony DeZinno's lifelong love affair with photography began at the tender age of 5, when he first picked up a camera, and he hasn't put one down since. This early introduction to the art form laid the foundation for his remarkable photography journey. In addition to his photographic pursuits, Tony's formative years were enriched by his involvement in theater, where he discovered a deep-seated passion for storytelling. This experience instilled in him a profound appreciation for narrative and a keen understanding of the power of visual communication. Tony's artistic sensibilities were further nurtured at Western Connecticut State University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Fine Arts in photography and interdisciplinary art, respectively. While studying, Tony worked as a theater, student life, and marketing photographer with the Communications and Marketing Department at WCSU, he skillfully documented the vibrant tapestry of campus life, lending his unique perspective to the university's visual narrative. Immersed in the work of luminaries such as Frank Ockenfels 3, Cindy Sherman, and Robert Mapplethorpe, he honed his craft. He developed a distinctive style that seamlessly blends technical prowess with a keen eye for detail. Beyond the lens, Tony's expertise extends to the darkroom, where he served as a class aid, overseeing open studio hours and assisting fellow students in their creative endeavors. This hands-on experience not only deepened his technical proficiency but also fostered a sense of camaraderie within the artistic community. Further enriching his portfolio of experiences, Tony embarked on an internship, which later turned into employment at Darkslide Film Lab, where he delved into the intricate process of the film development business. In 2023, Tony was honored with the Excellence in Photography Award from The Department of Art at WCSU. His work has been featured in exhibitions, including the Alumni Show and Senior Portfolio Show at the Gallery at the Visual and Performing Arts Center at WCSU, and most recently Iterations: A Dialogue of Scale at the Knowlton in Bridgeport, CT.
